    Position Overview

    The Customs Manager is responsible for leading and overseeing all import and export activities related to finished goods, equipment, consumables, raw materials, and indirect supplies. This role ensures full compliance with applicable foreign trade, customs, fiscal, and regulatory frameworks governing cross?border operations between Mexico and the United States.

    The position plays a critical role in enabling efficient international trade operations, minimizing compliance risk, optimizing customs?related costs, and supporting uninterrupted supply chain execution within a regulated manufacturing environment.


    Key Responsibilities

    Customs & Trade Compliance

    • Ensure full compliance with Mexican and U.S. customs, foreign trade, tax, and regulatory requirements.
    • Maintain valid authorizations, permits, and certifications required for import and export operations.
    • Ensure proper legal status of goods through accurate declaration, documentation, and tax payments.
    • Support audits and inspections by customs, fiscal, and regulatory authorities.
    • Maintain complete and auditable customs documentation and records.

    Import & Export Operations

    • Oversee all import and export activities involving raw materials, finished products, machinery, tools, and equipment.
    • Supervise virtual operations and bonded transactions with suppliers and service providers.
    • Coordinate cross?border transportation schedules and ensure timely customs clearance.
    • Manage export and import flows in coordination with logistics, shipping, warehousing, and purchasing teams.
    • Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations, including FDA and relevant Mexican health authority requirements.

    Financial & Performance Management

    • Plan, manage, and control budgets related to import/export expenses and customs operations.
    • Develop and monitor performance metrics related to operational efficiency, costs, and tax exposure.
    • Coordinate customs?related tax payments with Finance.
    • Evaluate opportunities to simplify trade operations and reduce operating costs through valid compliance mechanisms.

    Vendor & Service Provider Management

    • Establish and manage relationships with customs brokers, carriers, warehouses, and logistics service providers.
    • Define procedures and service level expectations for external partners, including cross?border storage facilities.
    • Ensure proper handling of hazardous and regulated materials, including MSDS compliance.

    Cross?Functional Coordination

    • Partner with Supply Chain, Engineering, Purchasing, Shipping, Finance, and Warehouse teams to support operational needs.
    • Coordinate customs requirements for new projects, machinery imports, and material list changes.
    • Support implementation of new manufacturing initiatives requiring trade compliance alignment.

    Additional Duties

    • Manage maquila?related authorizations and reporting requirements with government authorities.
    • Prepare and submit required foreign trade information to fiscal and economic agencies.
    • Lead corrective actions related to customs or quality system non?conformities.
    • Perform additional duties as business needs require.

    Qualifications & Experience

    • Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
    • Minimum 5 years of experience in international trade, customs, or foreign trade operations.
    • Strong knowledge of Mexican customs law and cross?border trade regulations.
    • Experience working with customs systems and trade compliance documentation.
    • Proficiency with standard business software tools (Excel, Word, ERP systems).
    • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a highly regulated, fast?paced environment.
    • Strong analytical, organizational, and stakeholder management skills.

    Language Skills

    • English: Advanced level (spoken and written)
