This person filling this position is responsible for the effective and timely development of mechanical components and assemblies accomplished by working closely with external and internal customers, suppliers, and peers. As well as supporting our customers with onsite diagnostic and SW updates on electronic modules via supplied interface hardware

This person will require a “hands on” approach to each application requiring the ability to access and assemble concept designs “in-situ” and provide clear direction and feedback to less experienced engineers on assigned projects and applying experience and expertise to ensure the product designs are capable of meeting both customer and Stoneridge requirements and quality levels.

The Resident Application Design Engineer is a key element in the process of identifying, understanding, and translating customer technical requirements into quantifiable deliverables and for their further compliance in terms of form, fit, and function in the final product.

This position will report directly to the Mechanical Design Engineering Manager as part of the Mechanical Engineering department.


  • Work closely with the external customers and internal teams to ensure a technically feasible and commercially acceptable application scenario for products
  • Coordinate projects closely with customers, suppliers, and peers.
  • Create 3D/2D concepts and concept assemblies using PTC CREO.
  • Define and evaluate design tolerances based on industry standards and tolerance stack-up analyses.
  • Monitor the costs and price levels of components and assemblies throughout the product design process.  Maintain mechanical design and product cost targets in line with established project targets for design work hours and planned product costs.
  • Evaluate and negotiate on supplier tooling decisions through DFM reviews
  • Identify/react to potential design risks/problems and implement problem solving tools to address them.
  • Provide on-site support for customers with respect to electronic module replacement and/or updates as necessary
  • Work closely with and provide support and leadership to other mechanical design engineers.


  1. Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electromechanical, or Mechatronics Engineering preferred, but nationally recognized trade skills with supplementary education in 3D design /manufacturing disciplines would be considered
  2. Experience in design for, die casting, sheet metal fabrication. plastic (injection molding),
  3. Proficiency in CREO Parametric.
  4. Proven experience in: (automotive or motorsport industry experience preferred)

    3. Microsoft Office tools
    4. Problem solving tools
    5. Low volume Manufacturing processes
    6. Design for assembly /Design to cost disciplines
  5. Fluent oral/written communications skills in English and Spanish.
  6. Excellent organizational and time management as well as strong analysis-based decision-making skills.
  7. Strong analytical skills and ability to work effectively with employees at all levels of the organization.
  8. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and be flexible.
  9. Strong attention to detail.

10.  Able to travel to customer installation sites within USA – 40% travel

11.  Enthusiastic and self-motivated.

Experience required: 5 years plus in a team leadership position
